Variable oxygen/fuel-gas ratio. The diagram shows the inner cone, reducing zone, oxidising outer envelope, approximate maximum temperature and risks to the weld.
For repairs, erection, smaller thicknesses, local heating, simple piping and where equipment mobility matters.
A flame has a lower energy concentration than an arc. Incorrect manipulation readily increases HAZ width, distortion and surface oxidation.
