In MIG/MAG, TIG, MMA or SAW, the welding engineer first considers the arc and weld pool. In this group, the logic changes: some processes form a solid-state joint by pressure and plastic deformation; others use a chemical reaction, induced current, a slag pool, an electromagnetic impulse or a very short discharge.

In this group, the logic changes: some processes form a solid-state joint by pressure and plastic deformation; others use a chemical reaction, induced current, a slag pool, an electromagnetic impulse or a very short discharge.
Not the process name but the joining mechanism: melting, diffusion, plastic deformation, discharge, induction heating or chemical reaction.
There may be no conventional bead or filler material, and the critical variable may be force, amplitude, lift height, burn-off, discharge energy or vacuum.
Series production, rotating components, aluminium profiles, battery terminals, studs, thick vertical joints, rails, tubes and transition joints.
