Topic overview

MIG/MAG is arc welding with a consumable electrode in the form of continuously fed wire in a shielding gas. The arc burns between the wire end and the base material; the wire melts simultaneously and provides filler metal.

MIG uses an inert gas, mainly Ar or He. MAG uses an active gas or mixture, typically Ar/CO₂, Ar/O₂ or CO₂.

The calculator is for training. Values demonstrate relationships between current, voltage, speed, stick-out and weld shape; final settings must be based on the WPS, weld testing and the specific equipment.

This is a training model. It changes metal-transfer mode according to current, voltage, gas, wire and stick-out. It is not the precise synergic curve of a particular power source.
