Tubular cored wires / FCAW
With solid wire, weld metal is determined mainly by the wire, gas and base material. With tubular cored wire, the process also includes the core filling : fluxing agents, arc stabilisers, deoxidisers, alloying elements, metal powder and substances that form slag or a shielding atmosphere. This changes current density, deposition rate, penetration profile, weld-pool viscosity, hydrogen regime, fume generation and inter-run cleaning.
