MMA
The welding arc burns between a covered electrode and the base material. The metallic core melts and provides filler material; the covering produces gas shielding, slag and, depending on type, metallurgical alloying of the weld metal. Slag is removed mechanically after welding.

The welding arc burns between a covered electrode and the base material. The metallic core melts and provides filler material; the covering produces gas shielding, slag and, depending on type, metallurgical alloying of the weld metal. Slag is removed mechanically after welding.
The most common selection for basic electrodes and structural welding. The arc is stable, penetration is good and hydrogen control is improved when electrodes are correctly redried.
Used for some rutile, cellulosic or special electrodes according to the manufacturer. It generally gives shallower penetration and more heat in the electrode.
Suitable only for electrodes marked for AC use. Basic electrodes require sufficient source open-circuit voltage and correct drying.
