NDT inspection

Non-destructive testing evaluates weld integrity without destroying the component. The module compares visual, penetrant, magnetic, ultrasonic and radiographic testing, including capability, limitations and reporting.

Topic overview

NDT complements metallurgy, WPS/WPQR qualification and ISO 5817. It does not merely state that “the weld looks good”; it helps determine whether the joint is acceptable for the required quality level, structural application and failure risk.

In practice, the method is selected not only by imperfection name, but also by material, thickness, joint geometry, accessibility, standard requirements and quality level B/C/D.

Principle: inspection of the weld surface, geometry and visible imperfections with the unaided eye or visual aids.

Principle: penetrant enters a surface-breaking imperfection and, after development, produces an indication.
